ACWF President Stresses Women's Role in Promoting Sci-Tech Self-Reliance and Self-Strengthening, Building China into a Powerhouse in Science and TechnologyApril 28, 2021
The Women's Action for Scientific and Technological Innovation, jointly initiated by the All-China Women's Federation, the Ministry of Science and Technology, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, China Association for Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, was launched in Beijing on April 25. Shen Yueyue, President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), attended the launch ceremony. Shen stressed motivating women scientific and technological workers to play an important role in promoting independent innovation and sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening, and in building China into a powerhouse in science and technology. Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the ceremony and released the content of the action.
Shen stressed uniting and guiding women scientific and technological workers, entrepreneurs, medical workers and technicians to apply scientific and technological achievements to the great cause of realizing socialist modernization, and to devote themselves to accomplishing major scientific and technological tasks, cultivating strategic emerging industries and tackling problems in core technological research that hinder the country's development. Shen also urged them to actively participate in women's volunteer services to promote science popularization education in schools, communities, families and villages. Noting the importance of serving and supporting women scientific and technological workers to improve themselves, show their talents and give full play to their role, Shen called for efforts to build a platform for studying, training and achievements exchanges, strengthening commendation to and publicity of outstanding women scientific and technological workers, supporting the transformation of scientific and technological innovation and the application of advanced science and technology in the agricultural field, and providing targeted services, including meeting their needs of supporting the elderly and raising children.
At the launch ceremony, the participating leaders presented awards to women scientific and technological workers who received the titles of National March 8th Red-Banner Holder and National March 8th Red-banner Holder Collective and role models and groups who have made outstanding achievements at their posts. Seven representatives of women scientific and technological workers shared their arduous efforts and practices in scientific and technological innovation at the event. Xuan Liling, President of the Women's Federation of Hefei City, in East China's Anhui Province, spoke about how the women's federation has guided women scientific and technological workers to give full play to their strengths. The speakers also expressed their determination to actively participate in the action and to make contributions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
The meeting called on women scientific and technological workers to make new achievements in scientific and technological innovation and contribute their wisdom and strength to ensuring a good start of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and building a modern socialist China. It is reported that there are nearly 40 million women scientific and technological workers in China. They are an indispensable and important force to promote the country's scientific and technological innovation.
